The regular monthly meeting of the Board will immediately follow the completion of the organizational meeting.

NISKAYUNA FIRE DISTRICT NO. 2

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Annual Election of the Niskayuna Fire District No. 2

will be held at the Fire House, 2772 Troy Road, Niskayuna, State of New York, on the 10 th day

of December 2024 between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for the purpose of electing one

Fire District Commissioner for a term of five (5) years ending December 31, 2029. Candidates

for such office must file a petition subscribed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the

Fire District with the Fire District Secretary no later than November 20, 2024.

All residents of the Niskayuna Fire District No. 2 who are duly registered to vote with the

Schenectady County Board of Elections on or before November 18, 2024 shall be entitled to vote

at this election.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a special Election of the Niskayuna Fire District No. 2 will be held at the Fire House, 2772 Troy Road, Schenectady, State of New York, on the 20th day of February 2024 between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for the purpose of approving or defeating the following bond proposition which will appear on the ballot:

SHALL THE FOLLOWING BOND RESOLUTION BE APPROVED?

BOND RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS OF NISKAYUNA FIRE DISTRICT NO. 2 IN THE TOWN OF NISKAYUNA, NEW YORK, COUNTY OF SCHENECTADY, ADOPTED DECEMBER 21, 2023, AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION AND PURCHASE OF TWO SEPARATE FIRE FIGHTING APPARATUS CONSISTING OR AN AERIAL VEHICLE AND PUMPER VEHICLE AND ASSOCIATED APPARATUS FOR USE WITHIN THE FIRE DISTRICT AND AREAS SERVED BY THE DISTRICT STATING THE ESTIMATED MAXIMUM COST OF SAID ACQUISITION AND EQUIPPING TOGETHER WITH CERTAIN COSTS PRELIMINARY AND INCIDENTAL THERETO IS $3,524,850.00, APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT THEREFOR AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF $3,524,850.00 SERIAL BONDS OF THE DISTRICT TO FINANCE SAID APPROPRIATION.

In addition to swearing in our Line Officers for 2024, we took a moment to recognize the achievements of many of our members during 2023. Niskayuna Fire District 2 Welcomes 24th Chief

On January 1, 2024, Chief Joshua Wyman relinquished the Office of the Chief to Chief Gerry Barbiero. Serving in the office for the past 3 years, Chief Wyman led Niskayuna Fire District 2 through over 1,900 emergency responses and countless hours of training and community support. Chief Wyman was instrumental in the growth of our community outreach program by investing time and resources into building our department’s capability to deliver CPR, Stop-the-Bleed, and other lifesaving training to the residents of our Town. Chief Wyman took delivery of our 2021 Pierce Quantum Heavy Rescue and our 2022 Diamondback Airboat. Chief Wyman guided the department through the training requirements and implementation of both valuable capabilities. These achievements represent only a small snapshot of Chief Wyman’s overall impact on our department and Town as he held the ranks of Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief prior to being named the Chief in 2021. Chief Wyman exemplifies the pride, dedication, and tradition of the volunteer fire service. He will now rejoin our volunteers in-ranks no longer of the title “Firefighter” but with the distinction “Past Chief.” Thank you for your service, Past Chief Wyman and welcome to our 24th Chief Barbiero!

The volunteers of Niskayuna Fire District 2 were busy in 2023! Throughout the year, we answered 613 emergency calls including 7 responses to structural fires, multiple vehicle accidents, and 302 medical emergencies. We welcomed 3 new firefighters and graduated 2 firefighters as interior structural firefighters! As a department we completed more than 1,500 hours training through department drills and State courses. We continued promoting youth participation in the fire service with 4 students in our Junior Firefighter program. During 2023, we placed WR-4145, a 2022 Diamondback Airboat, into service. To date, WR-4145 has already answered 7 water rescue emergency calls and supported a County water rescue training exercise. We continued to grow our community outreach efforts including hosting 13 CPR Training Courses to promote this life-saving skill with Town residents. The volunteers of Niskayuna Fire District 2 continued our collaboration with Niskayuna Fire District 1 to promote fire prevention education in Niskayuna Schools. 2023 also marked the return of our Open House which we hosted as a collaborative event along with Niskayuna Fire District 1 and the Niskayuna Police Department. From all of the volunteers of Niskayuna Fire District 2, thank you for your continued support. Here’s wishing you a safe, happy, and healthy New Year!

New Rescue on the Way

Niskayuna Fire District #2 is excited to announce, after year of planning, and many meetings, we have ordered a new Heavy Rescue. Our current Heavy Rescue, 414, has served us well for 25 years, and will continue to serve for another year or so while our new truck is built. Over the past 25 years, we have acquired many new pieces of equipment to support the diverse rescue operations to which we respond. As a result, we’ve out grown the capacity of the vehicle. We look forward to seeing this new vehicle join our fleet, and thank the members of the Truck Committee who have worked to design a state-of-the-art vehicle which will meet our needs for years to come.
